Summer Transfer Window 2024

It’ll never happen but the problem in the past was his brother / agent constantly pushing for a move. There’s no loyalty in football anymore, only from the fans, certainly not any players or managers.

Arnie is 35. This would be his last stop before he retires I would think. He’d never get a move anywhere else so pushing for one would be pointless. It would have to be an incredible deal for Stoke but I’d take him for a season. Strong, experienced, can put himself about a bit and score a few… I’d like to see it but wages would be a stumbling block and no doubt a dozen other issues so we might aswell forget it right now.

Nice idea but it just won’t happen.

As a side note he did indeed leave here laughing as it fell apart. The thing is though, everything he said was true. This club had no ambition. We were content to survive every year and not push on. A couple of decent signings it could have been so different. We could all see it and what did the chairman say ?
‘What’s all the fuss about’ ? Well Pete, perhaps you can now see what all the fuss actually was about.

Bit of talk about Connor Coady I’ve no idea how much truth is in it, Robert Huth is still working at Leicester so could possibly help in this one ?

Coady is 31 though, are we looking for younger or will his experience help steady the ship for a season or two ?

Not seen that. Wouldn’t be against it as a squad player… we don’t have a mass amount of experience and there’s no doubt he’s a leader and brilliant character. He was literally put into the England squad just because of those two aspects.

Won’t be coming as a squad player, one thing we’ve lacked massively this season is a spine, which by the looks of it is what we’re trying to get. Yes he’s over 30, but he’s not 34/35, still 2 or 3 years in him at this level at least. Expect to see 4 or 5 ‘known’ names come in, to build that spine.

Easiest way to look at it, Bojan Arnie and Shaqiri had the opportunity to do what they do because of the likes of Walters Whelan and Shawcross being the spine and the organisers within the team.

Not against it 😊👍🏻 unsure if he has the legs to be starting every game, which is why I mentioned squad player. But happy with it either way, I think he always comes across so well in interviews and seems to be a proper leader.

I think that’s the main reason to be honest, experience at the top, good guy, a leader… and still more than good enough for this league, some would argue that he’s too good. Leicester have Vestergaard (31), Ipswich have Burgess (28), Southampton have Stephens (30) and Bednarek (28), WBA have Bartley (32) and Norwich have Duffy (32) … I fear last season has now set an expectation to only sign 19-23 year olds, and this season proved that it rarely works because when things get tough, there’s nobody to drag them through it, although we did, but it took falling into the bottom 3 and SJW giving them a clear message for that to happen

Couldn’t agree more. I understand the notion of wanting to sign young players but there’s certain positions (specifically in the middle), that need experience. There aren’t many more experienced across the leagues than Coady. As you’ve mentioned, if you look at the balance of our squad we don’t have a massive amount of solid experienced leaders so it’s certainly a need.

I know they’re just rumours at the moment, but those we have been linked with (baring the QPR CB which I don’t know much about), seem to indicate a real clarity on where we need to invest in (& what characters we’re looking for).

Johansson, Coady, Cundle all seem like very strong links which make complete sense in my opinion.

Yeah the Clarke-Salter one is weird, we do need a left sided centre half but 5-7m seems very steep!

An experienced centre half, keeper, striker and midfielder I reckon, then we’ll go for some younger players through Jared, a left back, centre half, striker and maybe a winger is my prediction

I know a lot say only 1 striker, but we’ve had 3 leave, Gayle Wes and Ty, leaving Mmaee and Ennis, yes we have Tezgel but it’s a lot of pressure expecting him to bring the goals required, because Mmaee and Ennis aren’t 15+ goal strikers, although I do like Mmaee’s link up play and he could bring more goals through Junho and Manhoef (Manhoef i genuinely think scores 12+ next season, he looks ridiculous)

Yeah I think that seems steep personally. Glad CB seems high on the agenda though.

I think Mmaee has more goals than what we’ve seen also. He’s missed some big chances this year and could have more goals to his tally. A full season with confidence and a bit of love and I think he can get over 10. Be interesting to see if he may play in that 10 role eventually also, I know he’s played there plenty in the past.

GK (Johansson), CB x2, CM, LB & LW would be my recruitment choices. Wouldn’t mind the CM & LW being on loan. A good LW on loan from a top league team would be good.

If you were to spend 5mil on two players what positions would you prioritise to take up those big spends?

Well apart from GK as it looks like we’re getting a steal for Johansson, I’d say left back and centre back

One thing I’m praying for this season is investment in the defence, too many seasons now we’ve created the defence with loans and frees, then we wonder why we can’t get a settled defence with a bit of quality in there!

Defence is the obvious area for strengthening and has been for a while but I was looking at the league table last night and our goals conceded isn’t too bad compared with the rest of the league, even Ipswich only conceded 3 less than us. The problem was goals scored where we were way off the mark.

Having said that, the keeper situation needs to be sorted ( and might well be ) and the left back situation is criminal and has been all season. I still can’t understand the Tymon thing unless it was for FFP purposes and even then it still astounds me. New CB or two wouldn’t go amiss although I think Wilmot would be ok with a decent partner.

Sort that out and things could be better but we really do need to address that goals scored column aswell. I would expect input from Million and Junho aswell as others chipping in but we really do need a decent front man getting into double figures too. Easier said than done I know…
